Taxonomic Name: Pilea nummilariifolia
Nettle Family
Herbaceous Plant
Creeping Charlie is the big brother--so to speak--of the diminutive creeping Jenny plant (Pilea depressa). While creeping Charlie shares its sister's prostrate habit, its leaves are larger, and generally it is a more robust plant. Consequently, it's used in hanging baskets rather than in pans or terrariums. Incidentally, this species is not the same as the notorious creeping Charlie weed that infests lawns in our region.
How to Care for Your Plant:
LIGHT: Direct sunlight or bright indirect sunlight is preferred.
WATERING: Water thoroughly as soon as the soil surface dries out. When you do water, at least a little water should come out of the pot's bottom drainage holes. However, the plant should not stand in saucer water for more than thirty minutes.
FEEDING: Sparingly use a balanced all purpose houseplant fertilizer when the plant is growing actively. Apply the plant food at half the concentration and frequency listed in the product directions.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: Overwatering may promote root rot. Also, low humidity may cause leaf margins to brown.
