Taxonomic Name: Pilea Cadierei
Nettle Family Small Herbaceous Plant
This species, often used as an accent plant in dish gardens and terraria, owes its popularity to its puckered, silvery foliage. It achieves its greatest effect when it is employed in massed groupings. The aluminum plant is a native of Indochina. |
How to Care for Your Plant:
LIGHT: The aluminum plant is happiest in a bright northern or eastern window--in other words, it enjoys bright but largely indirect sunlight.
WATERING: Make sure the soil surface dries between waterings. When the soil surface is dry to the touch, water the plant thoroughly. At least a little water should come out of the pot's bottom drainage holes, but the plant should not stand in saucer water more than thirty minutes.
FEEDING: Feed only when the plant is actively growing. At that point, use a high-nitrogen (high first number) houseplant fertilizer. Apply at half to one-quarter the frequency and concentration listed in the product directions.
POTENTIAL PROBLEMS: Avoid light extremes such as hot direct sun or solely artificial light.
