Landscape benefits and culture: Peeling bark and multistemmed habit create beautiful stands of trees, small leaves provide dappled shade. Trees are often heat tolerant and can do well in sandy or rocky sites in full sun.
Pruning: Summer or Winter
Potential pests/issues: Bronze birch borer (Betula nigra is immune to this pest), not tolerant of drought, susceptible to leaf miners. Best planted in the spring and not fall.
