Scientific Name: Magnolia spp.

Category: Deciduous tree

Habit: Upright (Some are rounded shrubs)

Growth rate: Slow to Medium

Fertilization: Fall (after leaf drop) or Early spring, Espoma: Holly Tone, Plant Tone or Tree Tone 

Landscape benefits and culture: Dark green and glossy leaves. Large blooms that can be pink, white or yellow depending on variety. Does not tolerate poor drainage, salt and pollution. Maintain a 2-3 inch layer of mulch to protect the shallow root zone,

Potential pests/issues: Does not transplant well, avoid that by purchasing container plants. Late Freezes can kill off flowers. Magnolia scale can be an issue. Long branches can become brittle and break if there is snow or ice buildup.
