Landscape benefits and culture: Has beautiful leaf shape and color, prefers morning sun and afternoon shade, keep sheltered from heavy winds and excessive heat, prefers evenly moist soil. Various cultivars exist with different leaf shape, leaf color, and overall form.
Pruning: Prune in late winter/early spring for structural pruning, otherwise late spring.
Potential pests/issues: Japanese maples can sustain damage if they are planted in areas with too much sun or winter winds, Japanese beetles can feed on leaves, verticillium wilt is also common
