Landscape benefits and culture: Fir trees have flattened soft needles that can be a rich green or a silver-blue. Often, these trees have a very full appearance. Firs thrive in full sun and well drained soil. Most varieties do not tolerate excessive heat, drought or heavy clay soil.
Pruning: Late winter/Early spring (before new growth)
Potential pests/issues: Can be susceptible to spruce budworms, wooly adelgids, canker diseases and deer damage. Firs are often very susceptible to drought stress.
