Scientific Name: Pinus spp.
Category: Evergreen tree
Habit: Conical
Growth rate: Slow to medium
Landscape benefits and culture: Evergreen tree that has needles in bunches along the branch. The amount of needles per bunch is useful in identifying individual pine species. Fallen needles, if left or incorporated into the soil, can acidify the soil. Most pines prefer full or partial sun, and most well drained soils. Pine cones often appear towards the tops of trees, and may require cleanup if they are plentiful.
Pruning: Late winter/early spring.
Potential pests/issues: Susceptible to sawflies, various moths, borers, white pine blister rust, and diplodia tip blight.
