Selecting Your Site
- Try and keep your Christmas tree away from heat sources, like fire places, heating vents, candles and sunlight
- Make sure there is a waterproof floor or barrier in your selected spot, just in case there are any spills or leaks from the tree stand.
Setting Up Your Tree
- If you are not immediately setting up your tree after purchase, keep it in a cool sheltered area like an unheated garage.
- When you are ready to set up your tree, cut off a small piece of the cut-end of the trunk and place into a stand with warm water. Using a preservative like "Prolong" is recommended at this time to improve tree longevity. Applying "Wilt-Pruf" to the needles will also improve this, but may result in diminished fragrance or blue needles turning green.
- Mount your tree so it is fully supported by the stand. Check water hourly for the first 6 hours the tree is set up, and twice a day afterwards.
- Decorate and enjoy! Consider using smaller lights that give off less heat to improve tree longevity. Don't forget to check any cords for damage before using, and only have the lights on when people are present.
