Category: Masses or linear evergreen planting
Habit: Naturally globe-shaped
Native: Species (occidentalis) is native to Eastern U.S.
Growth rate: Slow
Fertilization: Spring or fall- Espoma: Holly Tone, Plant Tone or Tree Tone
Landscape benefits and culture: Would be a good substitute for a larger (at maturity) globe shape than ‘Green Velvet’ Boxwood. Use as individual plants. Best in sun, thrive in damp soils
Pruning: Prune anytime after the spring new growth has hardened. Never prune back to bare wood without new green fronds on the branch ends. Because of its decidedly round top ‘Hetz Midget’ doesn’t necessarily prune well into a continuous, flat-topped hedge.
Potential pests/issues: Spider mites (in hot, dry sites)
