Watering and Care Instructions for your Signature Arrangement

            Indoor Arrangements 

Chalet’s indoor arrangements are created in the “Florist Trade” style with no drainage hole so that furniture is not damaged by drainage water. Arrangements are typically top-dressed with moss or other toppings so there is very little evaporation loss. When arrangements include multiple plants, each has its own watering requirements. Therefore, the frequency of watering is based on requirements of each plant, along with site specifics such as sun exposure and ambient temperature. Orchids (Phalaenopsis): Water until the potting mix surrounding the orchid is moist, usually only ¼ cup drizzled slowly on the surface. Do not water again until the planting medium feels dry to the touch. Succulents: Water until the soil surrounding your succulent is moist, slowly pouring ¼ cup of water at the base of the succulent. Do not water again until the soil under the decorative surface (such as stones, gravel, moss) feels dry to the touch. In a decorative planter without drainage, it may be only once over several weeks. Flowering & Foliage: Watering needs are plant specific. • Ferns prefer consistently moist soil and should not dry out between waterings • Kalanchoe, Cyclamen, Violets, and Begonias prefer moist soil that may dry out between waterings. Use the finger touch method to determine soil moisture levels.

 

         Outdoor Arrangements

There are three parts to caring for your Signature outdoor arrangement: 1. Watering: The watering amount and frequency are based on site specifics such as sun exposure, ambient temperature and specific watering requirements of each plant in the arrangement. To determine whether your arrangement needs water, use a finger to touch the surface of the soil. 2. Temperature: When temperatures are 60°F or lower, water 2 times per week. When temperatures are over 75°, water daily. For every 10°F over 75, add an additional watering per day, allowing the water to drain out of the bottom of the container each time. 3. Fertilizer: Your arrangement comes with a timed-release fertilizer, but the addition of water-soluble fertilizers applied with waterings later in the season may extend the life and quality of the container. 4. Deadheading: Deadhead all blooming annuals to encourage repeat blooms.

             

             Winter Outdoor Arrangements

Chalet’s outdoor winter arrangements with cut greens are intended to remain outside. Such arrangements are sprayed with Wilt-Pruf, which is an anti-desiccant, to help preserve the greens. We recommend that you spray it again a time or two throughout the winter season in order to maintain freshness.
